FREE MCLE Simulation: Navigating the Courts Alone, October 28

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to navigate the courts without an attorney? Join Prairie State Legal Services Thursday, October 28, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM for a FREE virtual interactive training exercise where you will step into the shoes of a single parent going to court alone to defend against an eviction. During the simulation, you will navigate several interrelated systems including the court, legal aid, public benefits, and housing.

• The complexities of the systems that low-income people are asked to navigate and the ways in which they do not always work together

• How access to resources (or lack thereof) impacts options and choices for families living in poverty

• The challenges facing pro bono or low-income clients and self-represented opposing parties outside of the legal system

• Different ways the courts and legal system are working to remove barriers faced by people without lawyers and how legal professionals
can support these efforts
