Outreach Worker - Armed Forces Legal Assistance Network

Prairie State Legal Services, Inc. is a not-for-profit legal aid organization that provides civil legal aid services to the poor, elderly, and people with disabilities. Prairie State has 12 offices serving 36 counties throughout northern and central Illinois. We focus services on legal problems that impact the ability of our clients to meet their basic human needs, including physical safety, access to healthcare, adequate housing, and similar needs. Prairie State is the only legal aid organization in the majority of our service area. Annually, we handle over 22,000 applications for legal help and serve over 16,000 clients. This Outreach Worker will be responsible for scheduling, preparing, and conducting outreach presentations to small and mid-size groups. The Outreach Worker will help Prairie State engage in outreach to members of the armed forces - both in active duty and veterans, and veteran service providers. The outreach will inform low-income veterans and providers of legal services available and help expedite those services. The Outreach Worker will be supervised by a licensed attorney with experience serving veterans and active duty service members.
Salary and Benefits
This is a temporary, part-time position. Pay is $15/hour. The Outreach Worker will be expected to work approximately 12 hours/week from the date of hire through May 31, 2020.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to serving veterans and active duty service members and their families.
A valid driver’s license is required as well as the ability to travel within the Prairie State larger service area. Mileage reimbursement is provided, but you must have access to a reliable vehicle.
