|11/30/2018||President, Vice-President selected for Prairie State Board of Directors
The Prairie State Legal Services Board of Directors elected Attorney Steven J. Greeley, Jr. and Attorney Mark Steffen to serve as President and Vice-President, respectively. The board oversees operations for Prairie State Legal Services, a nonprofit organization that provides free legal services for low-income persons and those age 60 and over who have serious civil legal problems and need legal help to solve them.
The board elected Greeley, a partner with Franks, Gerkin & McKenna, P.C. of Marengo, President during the board’s September 14, 2018 meeting, and Kankakee Attorney Mark Steffen Vice-President during the board’s November 9, 2018 meeting.
"I am honored to be in the position to help lead this great organization,” Greeley said. “Prairie State Legal Services is vital to the health, safety, and welfare of a very large portion of our community who cannot afford legal assistance.'
“Clients oftentimes face a situation that can further affect their health and welfare if Prairie State is not available to help them. I will work to continue to ensure this organization has the skill and the resources necessary to continue to help as many people as possible."
The Prairie State Board of Directors is composed of 21 members, including attorney members and client members. It protects the public interest by ensuring Prairie State Legal Services is operating in a manner consistent with its mission; adopts or revises policies as needed; advises management staff; and sees that Prairie State maintains its budget and meets grant requirements.
The board selects Prairie State’s executive director and monitors his or her performance. Board members engage in public and community relations, fundraising, and provide expertise on specific topics.
