Helping Kenny Keep His Home
July 14, 2026
Meet Kenny, a public housing resident that struggles with mental health issues. These health issues led to an incident in which Kenny damaged his neighbor’s property. The landlord responded to that incident by issuing an eviction notice to Kenny. Kenny faced homelessness. In his time of crisis, Kenny contacted PSLS for help. Kenny also voluntarily started treatment for his health issues and began following a treatment plan. PSLS met with Kenny and actively listened to Kenny to fully understand his current situation and life circumstances. Kenny’s medical doctor also provided medical documentation stating that Kenny’s health issues led to the incident with his neighbor. Prepared with these facts and documentation, PSLS contacted Kenny’s landlord to advocate for Kenny and request a reasonable accommodation based on Kenny’s disability. PSLS was able to negotiate an agreement with Kenny’s landlord for Kenny to stay in his apartment with support. Kenny’s landlord agreed to the reasonable accommodation and a plan to dismiss the eviction case if there were no more incidents within a certain timeframe and if Kenny continued his treatment plan. Kenny was so grateful for this advocacy. Thanks to PSLS’ high-quality legal services and advocacy, Kenny was able to avoid eviction and keep his home!
